Before a mainnet exists, a cryptocurrency project lives on a testnet—a parallel, experimental network where developers can build and test applications without any real money at stake. The launch of a mainnet, often called the “mainnet launch,” is a pivotal moment. It signifies that the blockchain has moved from a conceptual or testing phase to a real-world, functional product. On the mainnet, the network's native coins or tokens have genuine economic value, and all transactions are real, irreversible, and recorded on the public ledger. • Tokenomics in Practice: Is the economic model working as designed? If it’s a Proof-of-Stake network, are staking rewards sustainable? Is the inflation rate under control? The mainnet reveals whether the theoretical economic model can survive in the real world.
